Palani Murugan (Subramanya) Statue

About Product

Nestled in the town of Palani, the revered Sivagiri hill holds a special place in Hindu tradition as one of the six holy battle camps (Arupadai Veedu) of Murugan. It marks his first earthly sanctuary after residing in Kailash. Murugan, captivated by the hill's serene ambiance, embraced a hermit's life, seeking solitude for meditation and wisdom.

Palani, surrounded by tranquility and close to the picturesque Kodaikanal hill station, enhances the spiritual journey for pilgrims. The temple atop Sivagiri hill, initially built by the Cheras, stands as a testament to the region's rich historical heritage, reflecting architectural influences from past dynasties. At the hill's base lies the sacred Saravana poigai pond, revered for its alleged medicinal properties, adding spiritual depth to the pilgrimage. The main idol within the temple portrays Murugan as a youthful ascetic, symbolizing renunciation while retaining his divine lineage.

Crafted by Siddhar Bogar, the idol is made from nine deadly poisonous metals, defying conventional analysis. Offerings to the deity are believed to possess medicinal properties, showcasing Bogar's alchemical expertise and Murugan's healing association.

Devotees encounter shrines dedicated to Bogar, Ganapathi, and Idumban along the temple ascent, each embodying sacred rituals deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that Bogar's shrine is linked to a subterranean cave where he continues his meditative vigil. Paying respects to Idumban before entering the Dandayudhapani temple is a sacred ritual, enriching the pilgrimage journey with spiritual significance, divine blessings, and a deeper connection with faith.
