Kuzhandhai Aanandha Swamigal, often referred to affectionately as "Aanandha Swamigal". Sri Kulandai Ananda Swamigal turned into a revered saint who lived at some stage in the 17th century AD. He is considered to be a reincarnation of the famous Trilanga Swami of Kasi.
Birth and Early Life :
He appeared as the son of Mata Meenakshi, a manifestation of Parvati Devi. Kuzhandhai Aanandha Swamigal was Born in Samayanallur near Madurai to religious parents Sri AnnaSwami and Smt.TripuraSundari. His parents had been ardent devotees of Meenakshi, his birth was believed to be a blessing from the goddess.They had prayed to Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai to bless them with a child. The Goddess blessed them with twins. She instructed them in a dream that the eldest child, which the divine marks on his body, had to offer in her temple. As per the wishes of the Goddess with much reluctance, the child was left in the temple.The Goddess instructed them that she would take full care of the child. From that day on, the child remained in the temple eating the food offered to the goddess.The Child survived on the milk presented to the goddess at some point in Abhishekam. He remained inside the temple, sustaining himself on the temple Prasadam and milk.
During the reign of King Tirumala Nayaka in Madurai.The king wanted to test the child to determine if he was truly a divine child. King Tirumala Nayaka of Madurai tested the child by asking him to walk in the water of the holy tank. To the astonishment of the king and onlookers, the child walked effortlessly on the water. The king, knowing the divine nature of the child, humbly sought his forgiveness.
Madurai To Kashi :
After numerous years, Sri Kulandai Ananda Swamigal moved to Kashi. Swamiji moved to Kashi at the age of 16.There, he worshipped at the Kashi Vishwanath and Bhairav temples.Kulandhai Anandha swamigal became believed to be an incarnation of Trilanga Swami, who lived for over a hundred years and attained Samadhi in Kashi. He remained in Nirvikalpa Samadhi and stayed at Banaras for 150 years. He traveled to diverse holy locations which include Mount Kailash, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Nepal. He was worshipped by the king of Nepal. Hence, he is called as “Raja Poojitha”. Then he came south to Sittalan gudi near Madurai.

Madurai Jeeva Samadhi:
He attained Samadhi at Sittalangudi and it is said he took up another body. His Samadhi temple is still there at Sittalangudi and Pujas are being performed.

On top of this small but powerful temple is the tomb of the saint with a Shivalinga. A Sri Chakra Meru has also been installed nearby, for which the saint himself performed the puja. There are innumerable stories to the glory of this saint who was brought up in the Meenakshi Temple itself. It is surprising that most of the devotees of Madurai are not aware of this place.
The Samadhi was consecrated by Sadhguru Seshadri Swami of Tiruvannamalai. Those who are interested in meditation should visit this temple which exudes peace and tranquility. There is a version of this Swami and Sri Trilinga Swami of Kashi.
